Local Spotlight: Eve + Enoch

Today I'm featuring one of my favorite local designers: Jessilyn Poole from EVE + ENOCH! I first met Jessilyn and her sister Megan (now a partner in her business) back in 2011 at an Edmonton fashion design contest when she was just 20 years old, fresh out of college (she went to Marvel) and having recently started her label only a couple months before. After seeing the Sherwood Park resident's cute and contemporary dresses at the event, I remember thinking to myself, "I would totally wear her clothing!" Fast forward four years later and the EVE + ENOCH brand is now available to the masses online, at Bamboo Ballroom and J. Lea Fashion House opening this fall in Windermere. Scroll down to read my interview with this bright-eyed beauty about how she got started, what obstacles she's had to overcome starting a business from scratch and what she thinks about Edmonton's fashion industry.

Grey Matters

One thing I love about fall fashion is layering. When you live in a crazy-cold climate like I do, layering is a must to keep warm! My scarf collection is growing and my latest addition is this cozy Chandi infinity scarf I picked up at Bamboo Ballroom on my birthday last week and since it was my bday this purchase was totally warranted ; ) I chose to pair it with my classic leather jacket I bought at Nordstrom Rack a year ago while in California for 50% off (score!) I have to admit that I love wearing black and grey, I'd say 75% of my closet is made up of clothing in this monochromatic scheme. It's just so easy to mix these neutral colors with other pieces. What about you? Do you like wearing more neutral colors or brighter hues or both? ; )

leather jacket - June via Nordstrom Rack, t-shirt - James Perse, jeans - Rachel Roy,
booties - Vince Camuto via DSW, scarf - Chandi via Bamboo Ballroom
purse - Rebecca Minkoff via Shopbop, ring - H & M

Stylist Tip: You don't need to spend an arm and a leg on a leather/faux leather jacket, there are many out there for under $100.00.  If I didn't already have a leather jacket in my closet, I'd be picking up this one from Zara, in stores, (I checked this morning and it's sold out online! It was still there yesterday...darn it!)

Cococo

maxi dress - Obey, from Bamboo Ballroom, chambray - KUT from Black & Bold, sandals - F21, all accessories - H & M

I wore this outfit to meet my friends at a chocolate cafe this past weekend. Yes, you read that right - a CHOCOLATE CAFE, aka HEAVEN! It's called Cocoo Chocalatiers. Although I didn't have any chocolate while I was there (I know, am I crazy??) besides a tiny truffle sample, I opted for the vanilla cherry gelato which was amazing, just like it sounds. It was so hot that day, like 30 degrees celsius (side note - when I was eight years old I swore I'd name my future daughter "Celsius," luckily that was just a passing phase along with wearing my clothes inside out and backwards, a la Kris Kross circa 1991) but there was air-conditioning inside the cafe so I had to make sure I was prepared for the difference in temps. So I opted for a slinky, breathable mid-maxi dress for outside and a light, chambray shirt to layer over it when I was inside. It's all about the layers! Especially when you live in Canada ; ).

The Bamboo Ballroom Blogger Night

 Bloggers Sandy, Janis and me

Last night I attended the second annual 'Blogger Night' at one of my favorite stores in Edmonton, Bamboo Ballroom, which is also one of my lovely sponsors! The gals at Bamboo showed us once again, how to put on a great party ; ).

Makeup artists Nicola Gavins and Amber Prepchuk painted faces with their drool-worthy makeup collection.

Clockwise L-R: Vickie from Adventures In Fashion paints jewelry provided by Bang Bang Bijoux, my necklace creation, and yummy fruit cones.

Kyla and Stacey, the owners of Bamboo (and The Common!), Makeup artists Amber and Nicola and Rachel from Bang Bang Bijoux with clothing designer Ali from Suka Clothing.

Close-up of the necklace I wore to the event, from Zara. I took this photo in Bamboo's change room ;).

Of course there was a lot of shopping that went on as well. I picked up a grey maxi dress from Obey that I can't wait to wear when I go on vacation! Thank you to Stacey, Kyla, Rachel, Amber, Nicola, Ashley, Kassandra, Ali and everyone else at Bamboo Ballroom for putting on such a fun event and making us bloggers feel so special! You ladies rock!
