The Internet: My 5 Faves This Week

1. This gorgeous, summery fashion spread in Vogue India featuring makeup by Edmonton's own Nickol Walkemeyer and hair by (also Edmonton's own!) Kirsten Klontz. I love seeing people from my hometown making it Big, it's inspiring!

2. Okay, so this lip sync battle between Emma Stone and Jimmy Fallon is hilarious. It actually went viral last week so I'm a little late. If you haven't seen it, you gotta watch.  It's legendary ; ).

3.  Poor Andre Leon Talley. The former Vogue editor-at-large was caught digging for gold while interviewing Kimye at the Met Ball. Made me giggle. I'm kinda weird.

4. Reading about Jodi Ann Bickley's One Million Lovely Letters project made me smile and I hope it makes you smile too : ).

5. I've viewed Sia's 'Chandelier' video, starring 'Dance Moms' Maddie Ziegler at least twenty times in the past two days, I'm not exaggerating. Watching this talented little girl move so effortlessly through space literally took my breath away. This video is my all-time favorite, it's just so, so good and the choreography is unreal. I get shivers every time I watch it.

Have a great weekend!

The Coat

coat - Banana Republic (outlet), sweater - Jacob, pants- GAP (1969), shoes - Joe Fresh, ring - H & M

I had been searching for the perfect red coat for the longest time. When I walked into the Banana Republic outlet store at South Common yesterday, having had some spare time before meeting friends for brunch I saw this jacket in all it's red glory hanging on a rack and it must have had magnets in the pockets because I gravitated right to it as soon as I walked in the door. I swear there were tiny angels singing in my head, "Hallelujah" but with English accents. (?) Perfect for fall and warm winter days, this coat was exactly what I was looking for, with lots of buttons and pockets. Speaking of winter, I am currently dealing with frost on my car every morning and having to scrape it off. What's up with that??? Actually I shouldn't be surprised but I was hoping and praying we wouldn't get a winter this year. We usually get snow in October and since it's November and we haven't seen any white fluff yet, maybe it'll be skipped altogether? Ha! Wishful thinking. I hope you all had a good weekend!

P.S. Has anyone heard of the singer Lissie? I've been listening to her music all weekend. Why I hadn't heard of her before I don't know but now I'm obsessed!

My Friend the Music Video Producer and a Giveaway!

My friend Caroline is quite the talent. Not only is she a killer writer (she interviewed Lady Gaga and currently writes for Fashion Magazine) but she can now add 'Music Video Producer' to her resume. Yup, Caroline produced sultry songstress Krystle Dos Santos' first video for  track off her sophomore album titled Fame Fatale in Vancouver.

The video 'Remember' was a collaborative effort for Krystle who combined music, film and fashion with Edmonton-based designer Jessica Halabi (she made the beautiful white dress Krystle wears in the video), west coast filmmaker Brett Rostrup, Vancouver fashion blogger/stylist Nicole Soon and Producer Caroline Gault. In celebration of the video's release, the award-winning singer and her camp are giving away 2 CD's to one lucky reader: 1 signed copy from her self-titled debut album and one signed copy from Fame Fatale, where the song 'Remember' (in the video) is from.

I've been listening to Krystle's music for the last couple of days and I'm hooked on her smooth-like-butter voice! I read on her website that her song "Shake Ya Booty" made the soundtrack for the television show 'Samantha Who?', starring Christina Applegate which I thought was pretty cool!

It's easy to enter:

-simply be or become a follower of Marie a la Mode through Google or Bloglovin' (1 entry) or 'Like' me on Facebook (1 entry) or both which will equal 2 entries

***Please make sure to leave your email address or a way to get a hold of you if you win in the comment section below. This contest is open internationally. Good luck! The winner will be chosen Tuesday October 25th.

Jar of Hearts (I Friggin' LOVE this song!) & BABY LOVE

If you're a devout fan of So You Think You Can Dance like I am you would have heard this song during Billy and Kathryn's Contemporary performance last week. It's called "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri and I LOVE it. This chick didn't even have a record deal when the song aired on national television and it made it to the top 10 singles chart on itunes basically overnight. Her star is rising fast! I love stories like these! It's a good example of how if you work hard and diligently at your craft, believe in yourself and never give up, the Universe will align exactly how it's supposed to and good things will start to happen. Check out her song below.

And I'd like you to meet my new "nephew," Taysen James. My best friend gave birth to him July 2nd. Isn't he just perfect? I can't wait to spoil him!
