Boo!

I'm okay! It's just make-up ; ) I've mentioned before on this blog that I do a little bit of acting here and there - well, whenever I'm lucky enough to book a gig - and I thought I'd share some "scary" pics (since it's Halloween and all) of me on the set of NBC's "Fear Itself" which I had the pleasure of working on in 2008. The star of this episode was Elisabeth Moss who plays Peggy on "Mad Men." I actually wanted to show you guys my scenes from the show but I'm having trouble uploading my demo reel to a site like Youtube without it being blocked by Lionsgate Entertainment and taken down due to copyright issues. Grrrrrr...D.'s still working on it and hopefully I'll have something to show you soon! And if any of you know how to get around this "issue" without me being sued please let me know ; ). I hope Lionsgate doesn't read this and if they do c'mon, I was a part of the show! Let me SHOW it! Pleeeease.

I played the role of a serial killer's victim he tortures. Here's a pic in between takes getting my makeup retouched.

You can't see it in this photo but I was handcuffed and tied to the chair I'm sitting on for a very long time while we filmed. In my underwear.

The makeup was amazing! The "blood" is actually corn syrup.

I know, ewwwww, right?! Here I am with talented director Stuart Gordon and actor Stephen R. Hart who played the serial killer. Stephen is 6'11 and has the deepest voice I've ever heard. Although he looks freaky in the photos he's a real sweetheart off screen, I swear! Filming this episode was so much fun, it was my greatest acting experience to date.

I hope you all have a great Halloween weekend!

The Edmonton Journal Feature

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
This weekend I was thrilled to be featured in The Edmonton Journal's Style section alongside some other fabulous local fashion bloggers. To check it out (and be able to read it) you can click here and scroll to the bottom. My picture was included in the paper - that's me on the right in that teeny tiny pic above - but not online for some reason.

Anyways, I hope you're all having a good week! It snowed on Monday and on that same day I caught a nasty cold so the past couple of nights I've been lounging around on the couch wrapped in a blanket sipping copious amounts of orange passion fruit tea and watching the third season of  'Californication' with D. Anyone have any good remedies to help ease a sore throat? And where's the best place to buy a Snuggie?

Chocolate Shower

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Last Sunday my beautiful and talented friend Jacquie, who also happens to be a chocolateur (like Juliette Binoche in the movie "Chocolat" with Johnny Depp!) and the creator of Jacek Chocolate Couture hosted a baby shower for our friend Laurie and it was the most delicious shower ever.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Jacquie's Grandmother who received all these tea sets as wedding shower gifts fifty years ago passed her lovely collection down to her. The guests all sipped yummy raspberry tea throughout the afternoon.

Here I am with the mama-to-be.

She's due November 20th (it's a girl!) but is expecting an early arrival. That baby wants OUT!

So much food. See those pink cupcakes on the right? Yeah, they changed my life. They were vanilla cupcakes but had a tasty chocolate filling in the middle, made by Jacquie's cousin who I think needs to open her own cupcake shop stat because they're that good!

Close-up of those cupcakes. I'm in love.

A few hundred of the thousands of her savory chocolates Jacquie's making for the upcoming Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival.

The guests all went home with individually wrapped chocolates from her luscious Loulou Belle collection. I had the strawberry champagne sample that consisted of "milk chocolate infused with champagne and strawberries in a smooth ganache." Can you say, "Yum?"

To learn more about Jacquie (above) or to purchase her chocolates you can click here. Stay tuned for an upcoming post about her special 2010 Christmas chocolate collection!

Did you all have a nice weekend? I hope so! Let's get Monday over with shall we? ; )

Photographic Conversation

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Between my boyfriend and I about my spending habit and other randomness during our 5 minute photo shoot:

Me: Do you like my new boots and jacket?
D : Those are new???
Me: Yeah but I got some money from my parents for my birthday, remember?
D: Marie, you were supposed to invest that money.
Me: I did. I invested it in a pair of combats boots and an awesome jacket!
D: I'm going to go around to all the stores you shop in with your picture and I'm going to tell them "if you see this girl DON'T serve her." Hey, your pants have no pockets! Did you rip them off?
Me: Did I rip them off? No, actually they came like that. I think I'm going to sit down.
D: Good idea. Why don't you frolick on the cement?
Me: I can't believe you just told me to "frolick on the cement." Oh no. There's a car coming!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! The  highlight of my weekend will be watching beefed-up men with necks the size of my waist beat the living crap out of each other on television for money. Yes, I'll be going to an Ultimate Fighting Championship viewing party. Hey, when you're in a relationship you have to compromise.

Inappropriate?

Here's 17 year-old Taylor Momsen of Gossip Girl and the lead singer of The Pretty Reckless posing for the cover of Revolver Magazine in next-to-nothing wearing stripper heels. And a gun. She should be arrested. Or her parents should. I'm no prude, but this is a bit overboard for a teenager don't you think? Discuss!

Birthday Loot

First of all I want to thank you for all your birthday wishes on Monday! You guys really made my day with all your sweet (and supportive) comments so thank you! I really had the best birthday ever and was spoiled with too many gifts. One I want to show you is this 2-in-1 Miche handbag my sister-in-law got me:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Here's the first cover. There are flaps on the inside that are magnetized and you can flip them up and slip the cover off so you have this:

Here's the shell.

And here's the other cover. The same purse but two different ways to wear it! Isn't that neat? It's the perfect size, too.

Before I forget I should mention that I'm typing this post on my *brand new laptop* D. got me! I haven't had my own computer for about 4 years because my cat pushed a Buddha statue off of my window sill which landed on my then-laptop and broke it. (Thanks Kitty.) I never got around to replacing it, I actually lived without the internet in my home for almost 3 years can you believe that??? How did I FUNCTION??? Lord only knows! So now I have my very own thanks to my generous boyfriend : ) who is also happy because now I won't have to upload gazillion pictures on his computer.

Something else I "received" on my birthday was this surprise at work:
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Two of my male coworkers who are also close friends of mine thought it would be "funny" to decorate my office and plastic-wrap my chair. I swear they wrapped it 50 times because I couldn't even cut into it with scissors, I needed an exacto knife. The post-its and balloons say either "30" or "29A" which I prefer ; ). My snickering friends were pretty pleased with themselves and all their hard work and I have to admit I was impressed! They took me out for lunch, too and after work D. and I met my family for dinner at a Thai restaurant. The food was soooo good! It was a perfect day.

I hope you're having a great week. We're halfway to the weekend, woot! woot!

October 18th

So today is my birthday and I'm not going to lie, I haven't really been looking forward to it. Actually I've been flat-out dreading this next milestone in my life like Lindsay Lohan dreads random pee tests. I'm no longer in my early twenties -or my late twenties, ahem - and it's a bit jarring because I can no longer blame my future mistakes, bad judgement or f-ups on my "youth" anymore, it's now time for me to take full ownership and responsibility for my actions for I am a full-blown Grown Up today. But I certainly don't feel my age (which is 29A if you haven't guessed already) or the need to grow up. Or to surrender to the fact that from now on I will be aging and sagging in places I wish would stay taut forever! But C'est la Vie and here I am, one year older. And wiser? I'd like to think so. Although I'm not happy about getting older I am happy about where I am in my life and feel blessed to live the life I do. My boyfriend reminded me of this when he threw me a surprise birthday party (along with the help of my parents) 10 days ago and forty of my closest friends and relatives showed up to celebrate with me. Last week I told you I'd post pictures so here we go. Bear with me, some of these photos are taken from a ways away on my mom's camera and aren't very clear (that and the fact I look like Satan with my red eyes) but I thought I'd share them with you any way. So, the night started out like this:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I'm wearing my work clothes because that day I went directly to my hair appointment from the office, then to dinner with D. and afterward straight over to my parents house to see my nephew Kayden whom they were babysitting that night. I was itching to get over there because I wanted to spend as much time with K. as possible before he went to bed as it was getting late. Throughout our dinner D. was texting on his phone and I kept thinking, "How rude!" He said he was texting his friend who had a hot date that night but really he was texting my mom to tell her where we were and how long we'd be until we arrived. When we pulled up to the house there were tons of cars parked on the street but I didn't clue in at all. Hence the dorky surprised expression on my face when I opened the door to a choir of friends and family yelling "Supriiiiiise!"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I was completely shocked. I had NO idea. People kept saying, "C'mon, you didn't know anything?" Look at my face in the first picture, do you think I knew anything with that  "Holy Shit" expression on my face??? D. did a great job of hiding everything from me. And that's gum in my mouth, not slobber.

My beautiful cousins

Here I am with Kristin, one of my best friends I've known since I was 8 years old. D. tried to fly in our other best friend who lives in Vancouver - I know, how sweet is he??? - but she had a mid-term that afternoon and there was no way she could have made it. She was there in spirit though and called me ten minutes after I arrived at my party.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The Crew. FYI they didn't plan the all-white wardrobe that night ; )

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I don't drink but I made an exception this one night. Which lead to pictures like this at the end of it:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
That's my friend Jared. He's a lot of fun and was happy I was drinking.

Oh, I almost forgot about the BOOB CAKE!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
What can I say? My Mother has a very ODD sense of humor. Even D. looks confused.

Anyways, the party was so much fun - I let loose and stayed up waaaaay past my 29A bedtime. I felt so loved and so special that night. And in all seriousness, maybe turning thirty (there I said it) isn't all that bad. I was kinda lost and insecure and went through some really rock-bottom tough times in my early twenties, I started to figure myself out in my mid-to-late twenties and now finally I'm starting to feel comfortable in my skin as I enter this next decade. It's taken a long time for me to get where I am right now, to be content and know what I want. I'm ready to start the next exciting chapter in my life with D., my wonderful family and my amazing friends by my side. And some anti-wrinkle cream.
; )

I hope you all had a great weekend and I wish you a wonderful week!

I hope you all had a great weekend! My long weekend was nothing short of jam-packed. It started on Friday when D. threw a surprise birthday party for me! I won't go into detail right now, I'll save that for another post (with pictures) but let's just say I was completely shocked and had absolutely no idea he was planning anything. My Birthday isn't for another week so he caught me totally off guard! More details on the whole shindig will be coming soon I promise : ). Saturday we went to my friend Laurie's Birthday dinner at an amazing Indian restaurant and this is what I wore. (It was casual.) The food was excellent, the service was impressive and we all had a great time although most of us were hungover from the night before : { On Sunday my family celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving in town.We were originally supposed to go out to my Aunt's Cottage but plans changed because my Grandmother wasn't feeling well enough to travel. But that's okay, we still enjoyed the beautiful day, stuffed our faces full of comfort food, ate too much dessert and tried on various scary Halloween masks. Yes, even my Grandmother. (We're a wacky bunch.) Here are some of my favorite foods I ate on Sunday:

Candied Yams Mmmmmmmmm...

Ginger Cranberry Sauce my cousin made

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
My Grandma's fruit-filled pastries

And of course good old pumpkin pie : )

This is just a sample of what we ate that night. If you're asking "where's the turkey?" I'm a Vegetarian so no turkey for me. And I hate tofu so no tofurkey either! Yes, I'm the worst Vegetarian ever. I topped of the long weekend by finally stopping in to the first Victoria's Secret in Canada which just so happens to be in the city I live in and it is soooo nice. They even have make-up in that store. I'm not sure if that is common for all VS stores or not? Anyways, I picked up a few things that I won't mention because well, they're my underthings but I will tell you I got a free Victoria Bombshell tee with my purchases ; ) So all in all I had a great weekend and I hope you did too.

Have a great week!
