Dakota & The Runaways

Remember this cute little nugget from the 2001 film "I Am Sam" starring Sean Penn? Yup, it's Dakota Fanning who was only six years old when she filmed that movie, which made me cry like an idiot I might add! This past weekend I rented (yes, I still "rent" movies, Blockbuster Style) "The Runaways," a biopic about the first ever female rock band and watched the now grown-up16 year-old actress nail her performance as lead singer Cherie Currie.

K. first I have to ask: How cool are the clothes these chicks got to wear in the movie??? Gawd I loved Fashion in the '70's! And the Farrah Fawcett hair style? Definitely a fan ; )

So before seeing the movie I assumed Kristen Stewart was the star of the film since she played Joan Jett (of "I Love Rock and Roll" fame) who is probably the most 'known' band member of "The Runaways" today but the movie was actually based on Cherrie Currie's biography which means Dakota Fanning soaked up way more screen time than K-Stew. Which was fine with me because I can only take so much lip-chewing and awkwardness from the latter. Dakota's performance was powerful. I kept saying to myself, "I can't believe she's only sixteen!" And not only is she an amazing and talented actress, she also seems very intelligent and mature in interviews, like she has a good head on her shoulders with a solid support system. Hopefully - fingers crossed - she won't be tempted by booze, drugs, fame or sex a la former child star Lindsay Lohan and Cherie Currie herself and end up getting out of cars with no underwear on (or worse, in jail!) and ruining her career after she turns eighteen. I'm really rooting for her. I think she's a much better role model for young girls compared to people like Lindsay or the plastic-surgery addicted, talentless girls of "The Hills" or even Miley Cyrus who acts like she's 16 going on 25. Anyways, what do you think of Dakota Fanning? Good role model? And have you seen the movie? By the way, I really liked it : ) And I will admit that K-Stew was pretty good in it as well. Awkwardness and all ; )  Have a wonderful Thursday Lovers! It's almost Friday!!!

  2. I have yet to see this movie but it is on my "to watch" list!! First of all: fashion-sold! Secondly, I am a fan of Dakota Fanning. She does seem like a girl with a good head on her shoulders and here's to hoping she avoids the spotlight because she is a really talented actress!!

  8. I loved this movie! It was so good! I really like Dakota Fanning, she has been good in everything she's done (Have you seen hound dog? A little disturbing, but another good performance by her!) She seems pretty down to earth in interviews (haven't seen many, but I saw her on Ellen, and she was talking about school, cheerleading, homecoming, etc!) I think she's adorable!

  12. I can't believe how talented and mature Dakota is. Have you seen her on Aug's cover of Marie Claire? She looks stunning. Such great style for her age.
Ughh, Im' glad the movie makers spared us too much air time from Kristen, girl cannot act to save her life.

  20. I just saw this on the plane and thought it was so intense! I also thought it was mostly about Joan Jett and didn't really realise that Dakota was the main character!
She was awesome as always though, and the fashion was killer too :)
