Transition

jacket + ring - H & M, flannel shirt + pants - Joe Fresh, white undershirt - Old Navy, boots - Aldo, purse - Rebecca Minkoff

photos by the incomparable Harvey Miedreich

Harvey took these photos of me a few weeks ago, when it was fall. I've had the jacket for a long time, I think it's the perfect autumn coat and I can basically wear it with anything except an evening gown. But now it's winter. Yes folks, we have snow on the ground. And so it begins. I have dug my parka out of the spare room, along with my winter boots and have transplanted my open-toed shoes and sandals from the front entrance to the shelf highest in my closet. How do I feel about this you ask? Let's just say I'm not a winter person. I don't like the cold (-35? No thanks!), I don't like the snow (my car gets stuck at least 7 times every winter and people have to push me out) and I'm not a huge fan of winter sports except maybe hockey, sometimes. Also, it's much harder to take outfit posts outside when it's freezing cold and you feel like at any moment your limbs are going to fall off. I think I lived in California in my past life. Give me sun, hot weather and a beach and I'm a happy camper! (Just no hurricanes or earthquakes please. I'm praying for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.) But I'm going to make the best of this winter and try not to be so negative about it. I'm going to try to embrace the winter season. For example, I haven't skied since I was 16, due to tendinitis in my knees from years of dancing but I think this year I'm going to try it again. Let's just hope I don't throw my hip out of place like I did last year when I tried skating after years of dormancy and fell on the ice ; ). Gosh I'm old.

These photos are adorable! Such a great casual outfit! And I am SO dreading winter blogging - it's so hard! Sigh, but I do love those first snowy days of winter! So magical... I just wish it would all go away December 31st or so. ;)

I can believe we've transitioned to winter do quickly - these shots really made me miss fall! You look lovely, as always, and I love that jacket as well. Hurricane Sandy is indeed crazy - I've lost contact with a few close friends in Connecticut and NYC because of it and am praying they're all okay.

I can't believe you have snow already - you poor thing. It's pretty chilly over here and like you I was not meant to be a cold weather girl - I wish I could upsticks to a tropical climate!

Ps love the boots! x

Gorgeous pics! I'm already over the snow and it just started! While I do love fall close the cold is something that always takes some getting used to! .... You'd think that 35 years in Canada would make it easier, but no, I still dread the cold....

This look and these photos capture Fall so perfectly, Marie. You look gorgeous! I too, am sad that it's winter (in Vancouver that just means 8 months of non-stop rain, basically) but I like your attitude of trying to embrace it this year. I've been trying to be thankful for the distinct seasons that we get in Canada. It does make styling more challenging, but that's part of the fun... and I know that Californians are jealous sometimes that we get to wear cozy sweaters and coats! ;)

That is a jacket of yours that I really love!

Good luck with the skiing, I certainly hope it goes better than the skating! (Wear a helmet!)

Hi Marie! I haven't stopped by in a while, but I see that you are still looking gorgeous. I love this look. Very fall appropriate. :) It's awesome that you get to experience the 4 seasons there... of course in Hawaii, it's "summer" year round. We locals don't have "thick" skin, therefore when it's hits 70 or below, we are shiiiiivering! LOL.

Well, I hope you've been well. Here's to a fabulous week!

xx Love & Aloha
