Living in Sin Friday!

 photo from teamsugar

Happy Friday!!!

So. After four years together D. and I have decided to take The Next Step. We are shackin' up and will be "living in sin" since we're not married. (I apologize now to both of my Catholic Grandmothers but I'm thankfully not their first naughty grandchild who has lived with a boyfriend or girlfriend before marriage. I mean this is the 21st Century, right???) I'm renting out my condo and will be moving into D.'s house next month which is, like, really soon! I haven't even started packing yet. However, since he doesn't have a huge closet I have gone through my two closets (proof  that I have way too many clothes!) to pick out the clothes I haven't worn in awhile to give to charity. Let me tell you, this is more difficult than it sounds. I feel like Meryl Streep in "Sophie's Choice" who has to decide which child she has to leave behind and which child she will take with her. But it's just something I gotta do.

I also have to leave my bedroom set I've had since I was eight years old behind for my tenant and abandon my lovely light pink walls, my pretty, pastel-colored bathroom and my glamour photos of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn in my living room since I told D. he had to get rid of his giant wolf picture circa 1994 in his bedroom. It's only fair right? We're compromising ; ). Luckily I get to take my guest bedroom furniture with me to use in the main bedroom. I wasn't sure this was gonna happen because he had mentioned his distaste for pine furniture a couple of times in the past:

Me: "What don't you like about pine???"
Him: "It kind of scares me. It's creepy."
Me: "You're creepy."

How can someone be scared of pine furniture???? It's like being scared of ceiling tiles! (I hope he's not reading this and if he is I LOVE YOU BABE! You're the BEST!!!) Thankfully he overcame his fear really quickly. So anyways, this weekend I'll be going through my cupboards and throwing out any extra sh*t I don't use or need and will be moving some of my stuff over to D.'s house. Then the actual Big Move will take place in a couple of weeks. He basically has given me free reign on decorating YAY! (with the exception of pink because he "can't handle it") but I'm not sure yet how I'm going to combine both of our styles together and I don't want him to feel like I'm taking over his home completely. I want to make it our home. If anyone has any suggestions on this topic please let me know. And if anyone has any tips on living with a boyfriend please send those my way, too! This will be a first for me. Thanks : ) Have a great weekend everyone! And to the Canadians who have Monday off have a great LONG weekend!!!

Cute blog! And I have been living in sin for a year now :) It's so much fun! But the closet is definitely the biggest challenge, I store a lot of off-season clothing and shoes in suitcases or under my bed. And funny you metion the bedroom furniture, I am still trying to get mine from AZ to our house in Ohio... but I do have my white, lace down comforter at least :) Gotta get some femininity in that boy's house! Good luck girl! You guys will love living together!

Hey wow so it's getting serious! I think it makes total sense to live with someone before marrying them. It's good that you're compromising. When we moved in together I didn't have any furniture. I had to put up with some eh hem not very nice stuff for a few months, and bit by bit tried to get rid of them! We STILL have these plain but ugly cushions which - now that you've reminded me - I will throw out this summer (they will disappear), finally, I swear! Good luck!

Have a superb weekend lady. Lucky you on the 3 days off...however will you decide what child to leave behind?? Is there a "foster home" you can leave them in. You know what this means...

Carrie

Ohh should be fun!! Do you cook, or does he? I clean everything, and Ryan cooks everything.

He cooks AND cleans but I can only clean so I think I'll be cleaning and he'll be cooking, just like you and Ryan!

Congrats on the next step! That is too funny, I'm actually not a huge fan of pine furniture either! I think it's really cool that he has even formulated an opinion on this, actually! XO!

Ooh congratulations! I'm currently kind of in the same situation...getting ready to live in sin hopefully sometime this month (after only a year though...not four...but at least there's no babies in the picture!) and cleaning out all my stuff. My boyfriend told me I could only bring ten pairs of shoes with me. I told him to eff off! But I am getting rid of a ton of things. My boyfriend, too, has given me the freedom to decorate. So excited. Good luck to you!

P.S. Got my giveaway stuff (my mail was placed on hold since I was on vacation, so I just got it yesterday!) and I LOVE it! Great picks. The lipstick is definitely a new favorite.

Take care!

Yay! So exciting for you! Congrats! I don't live with my boyfriend, but I have many friends who do. Here's my advice: the first year will probably be a little rocky while you get used to someone in your space. Hold on though because it all just takes time and then you'll live together in blissful happiness!
