Guest Post: 4 Considerations When Hiring a Newborn Photographer

In my last post I shared pictures from my family photo shoot with Fiddleleaf  Photography. I'm so glad I have these precious photos of my son as a newborn with my husband and I : ). For those of you expecting or have recently given birth, I highly recommend getting professional photos taken of your little one. There are so many photographers out there though, how do you choose the right one for your family? Kelly Marleau from Fiddleleaf Photography has some great tips on what to look for when hiring a newborn photographer.

Family Photo Session With Fiddleleaf Photography

A couple of weeks ago my little family and I had the pleasure of working with local lifestyle photographer Kelly Marleau from Fiddleleaf Photography. I had actually met Kelly when I was pregnant, a few weeks before I gave birth. After following each other on social media and deciding we just had to work together, she came over to my house with coffee from Starbucks to meet my husband and I and check out the lighting in our house for the shoot, which wouldn't happen for another month or so, after baby decided to make his appearance ; ). This time was also spent getting to know one another. Kelly has such great energy and is super talented so I was really looking forward to our photo session with our brand new son! Here are some images Kelly took that day.

Flare September 2013: New Look Ahead in Fort Edmonton Park

photographer: Andrew Soule
hair and makeup: Diana Carreiro
styling: Rita Liefhebber
model: Julia Dunstall, Mode Models & Marilyn Model Agency

Alberta plays a huge role in Flare Magazine's 2013 September issue. This editorial spread (set in 1948) was shot in Fort Edmonton Park (in my city!) and stars Alberta born-and-bred model Julia Dunstall, as a young European prairie wife "wrapped in waisty tweeds, skirt suits, and an air of mystery." One of my favorite fall fashion editorials so far.

P.S. My friend Andrew also shot a fall 2011 editorial in Fort Edmonton Park (which I modeled in), you can click here to see those photos : ).

Have a great weekend everyone!

Freja Beha Erichsen For Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2013

shot by Hedi Slimane

Hedi Slimane is one of my favorite fashion photographers and Freja is a model I absolutely adore so you can imagine how much I love this campaign for Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2013. Slimane, who is also the creative director for the fashion house, snapped these photos at the Saint Laurent boutique in Paris which just opened it's doors at the beginning of this month. ANYONE WANT TO GO TO PARIS??

'60's Inspired

photographer: Jorgen Gomnaes
stylists: Hege Aurelie Badendyk & Mette Mortensen

To see the full spread, click here.

I love these shots featured in Costume Norway's March 2013 issue because #1 The styling, hair and makeup (look at those eyes!) is simply gorgeous and #2 They remind me of the early-to-mid '60's which I've come to view as one of the greatest fashion eras in history. I loved the go-go boots, prints, mini skirts and boxed shape dresses that, at that time, were revolutionary. Twiggy, Edie Sedgewick, Mia Farrow and Mary Quant are just a few fashion icons from the '60's I'm still inspired by today. Those chicks all had mad style.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Grace

I finished Grace Coddington's memoir this past week and loved it! I will be adding it to my list of favorites. For those of you who don't know who she is, Grace Coddington is the creative director of American Vogue and has been involved in the fashion industry for over 50 years. She has wild, frizzy red hair, loves (I mean LOVES) cats (even more than me), and has worked with every major fashion photographer in the world. At the end of the book there's a collection of photos from shoots she has worked on, and this is my favorite one:
'Stella Diving' Vogue 1995 Arthur Elgort

Have you read her memoir yet? And what have you read lately? I'd love some suggestions on the next good book I should read! Lately I've been reading biographies of entertainers and celebrities over the age of 70, like Dick Van Dyke, Florence Henderson, Penny Marshall, etc. It's my new thing. I love the elderly.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Model-Off-Duty Perfection

How perfect is this outfit model Alana Zimmer's wearing? The green coat is gorgeous layered over her simple white blouse, and her ripped and rolled up jeans gives the outfit a bit of an edge. Alana has such great style, always looking fresh and so well put-together. I'd love to raid her closet!

Happy Almost-Friday! Today is actually my Friday because I'm taking a vacation day tomorrow. It's D.'s birthday and he happens to have the day off as well so I'm looking forward to spoiling him and spending time with him on his special day : ).

Have a great weekend!

And The Weekend Is Here

photo via fashion roadkill

Happy weekend! Thank God it's here! It's been a loooong week with work during the day and attending fashion week the past 3 nights! It was good but exhausting, especially when you have to get up at 6 a.m. every day and you don't drink coffee. I'm really looking forward to going out to my family's cabin tomorrow for a little R & R. Sometimes you just need to get away, take in some fresh air, un-plug and do nothing and that's exactly what I plan on doing ; ). Along with catching up on my sleep! The weather is supposed to be beautiful and warm, too, which is actually very uncommon during this time of year where I live so I'm going to take advantage of it before the temps drop and it starts to snow. (It can start snowing in October. Oh Canada!)

Have a wonderful weekend! I'll be back with some fashion week posts next week!

Awesomeness

How perfect is this photo and the styling? I just had to post it! Happy Weekend everyone: ). Anyone doing anything fun for St. Patrick's Day tomorrow? To be honest with you I forgot all about it until I started reading about it on other blogs! Oops. I guess I've had other things on my mind. D. and I are headed to a fundraiser tomorrow and maybe there will be green beer involved, who knows? What I do know is that there will be a ukulele band performing and they are AWESOME. Have a great weekend!

Fashion Rocks & Behind the Scenes

photographer: Tina Chang
Makeup & Hair: Nickol Walkemeyer
Stylist: Leah Van Loon
Assistant Photographer: Zach Ayotte
Makeup Assistant: Katie Matson
Stylist's Assistant: me
model: Kim McCullough @Mode Models + IMG

Last year in December I assisted Stylist Leah Van Loon on an editorial shoot for The National's M Magazine called 'Fashion Rocks', photographed by Tina Chang and here are a few shots from the shoot! To see the whole spread, click here. I was also able to get in a few snaps behind the scenes:

It was a great learning experience working with such a talented team. And everyone was from Alberta, even model Kim McCullough who hails from Ponoka! So that was cool.

I know I was supposed to announce my Jason Wu for Target Giveaway this week but I've extended it to next week. If you live in Canada and haven't entered it, you can click here to do so. Have a great weekend!
