Pregnancy comes with a whole lot of symptoms - some nice (glowing skin, shiny hair, bigger b**bs!) and some not-so-nice (nausea, swollen legs, sore back, itchy skin). I remember one day back in December, my belly was sooooo itchy from it being stretched, I was scratching all day long (it was so hard NOT to) and I felt like I wanted to crawl out of my skin. And it only got worse at night. I thought to myself, "Dear God, I need some relief! Or else I'm going to scratch 'til I bleed!" Luckily Palmer's Anti-Itch Skincare Package came into my life just in time or else I'd STILL be digging my fingernails into my flesh ; )
I was sent three Palmer's products (which you can get at any drugstore) to review, all made with cocoa butter, which is deeply moisturizing, hydrating and nourishing and also helps to prevent stretch marks. I used them all for two weeks, here was my routine:
- I'd start with a bath at night and fill the water with 1 cap-full of the Moisturizing Body Oil For Shower & Bath w/ vitamin E. You don't have to use it while bathing, you can apply it directly on to your skin but I really liked soaking in it for 20 minutes. It's oily (it's an oil after all!) but not greasy. It left my skin feeling silky and smooth. *Just remember to wipe down the bathtub after the water has drained because the oil will make the surface slippery and you don't want to slip and fall the next time you take a shower!
- After getting out of the tub and patting my body dry I would spray the Cocoa Butter Formula for Dry, Itchy Skin on my belly, hips, buttocks and thighs. This oil has a unique combination of cocoa butter, vitamin E, collagen and elastin formulated to soothe and soften the skin while maintaining firmness and elasticity. It can be used on wet or dry skin. Even though the bottle has a picture of a pregnant woman on it, don't be fooled, anyone can use it! This oil REALLY helped with my itchy belly and legs. (No more scratching.)
- In the morning after my shower I applied the Cocoa Butter Formula Moisturizing Lotion with vitamin E, which helps smooth marks and tones skin, providing 24 hour moisture. This was my favorite of all of the 3 products I tried. This lotion is as smooth as butter, smells delicious and is extremely hydrating. My skin absorbed it quickly (I put it mostly on my 8 months pregnant belly) and the formula also helped with the itching.
After using these products, my skin seems more firm and extremely moisturized, which is important to me since I live in Edmonton and we have one of the driest climates on the planet, especially in the winter. Also, I hardly have anymore itching and continue to have zero stretch marks on my belly - I'm sure all of these Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula products helped prevent them from forming.
And now it's time for a giveaway! Enter to win this anti-itch skincare package below! Contest is open to Canadian residents only. (Sorry!) The winner will be announced on Twitter and Facebook on January 30th. Good luck : ).
