Windows On Whyte

blouse - vintage, blazer - H&M, trousers - Zara, ballet flats - JOE Fresh, bag and glasses - Urban Outfitters

Last Saturday I, along with a few other fashion bloggers and artsy-farsty folks, was invited to judge the Windows on Whyte (WOW) window display competition in Edmonton's Old Strathcona Fashion District. Eight students from Grant MacEwan University each competed for a chance to win gift cards from all of the stores participating (Bamboo Ballroom, Foosh, Mars and Venus, Oak + Fort, Gravity Pope, Colourblind, Avenue Clothing and Plush), tickets to Western Canada Fashion Week and local recognition during WCFW. I was blown away by how creative and innovative these students were in creating their masterpieces. It was so hard to judge and pick the window that I thought should win because they were all so brilliant!

Bamboo Ballroom window display. Marilyn, Twiggy and Audrey, three of my favorite icons. I'll say this now: it is so freakin' hard trying to take photos of windows! That's why you will only see a few, sadly : (.

Gravity Pope. The designer was a master of origami and extremely detail-oriented.

The results:
1st Place was a tie between Bamboo Ballroom (Sarah Kobasiuk) and Oak + Fort (Jessica Fleury)
2nd place went to Mar + Venus (Kim Anderson)
3rd place went to Gravity Pope (Shuang Wang)

Congratulations!

If you live in Edmonton you can join me on Friday, September 23rd for the Whyte Avenue showcase at Western Canada Fashion Week which will feature the hottest fall fashions from "the ave".

  1. I love what you wore to this very cool sounding competition - you look all business (which is exactly how I imagine a judge should look!) and so pretty. That pale blue shade suits you so well.

  18. I spy an adorable camel coat in that store window that I wouldn't mind having for my very self! As usual, you--and everyone else--look so stylish. I like the glasses. And I am strangely drawn to that gorgeous floor you're standing on in the first two pictures. It looks so classy!
